I spent a delightful 3 years in Sabah. Funny how it seems like being in another country. I suppose having our passports checked at "immigration" does contribute somewhat to the feeling of visiting a foreign land. What hit me between the eyes, upon landing at KK airport was the accent. I feigned ignorance by nodding and smiling whenever there was a pause in the conversation. I must have done okay, because the preceeding months saw me mingling with locals.
I'm proud to say I climbed Mt Kinabalu. On a confessional note, I must admit to aching limbs and locked knees for at least 3 weeks after. Only the thought of coming home minus a certificate kept me going on and on uphill. The sunrise was like nothing else I've ever seen. Funny how nature makes you feel small and insignificant.
The climb downhill was H-E-L-L. I felt my ligaments being stretched sideways at least 5 inches. I imagined my knees being crushed with each hop. The last 3 km was uphill. I nearly cried at the sight of the mini bus. Tears of joy so to speak.
