This was the first impression of Tawau. The airport looked a little weeny. The conveyer belt for luggage stopped midway and the my bag ended up in a heap, together with other bags of various shapes and boxes which looked awfully dodgy. As the plane screeched to a halt, ( I had my fists clenched if I remember correctly..) we landed with my body leaning forward at an incline. Two years prior to this landing, an airplane had crashed at this very airport. So you may well imagine the pitter patter of the heart.
In my last two months, they opened the new airport in Tawau. So flying into Tawau shouldn't be such a bother now I guess. A good reason to visit the place I once called home.
